Rum dates back to 1650 on the island of Barbados, to the time of sugarcane plantations and the slave trade. It’s believed to be the first spirit made to drink for pleasure rather than used for medical purposes. Gold, white or dark, there’s a rum for every preference.
Part pina colada, part strawberry daiquiri and totally delicious, here’s a cocktail that brings the tropics to you.
60ml dark rum, divided
60ml coconut cream
60ml pineapple juice
30ml lime juice, freshly squeezed
15ml Simple Syrup
1 cup of strawberries
Garnish, pineapple slice
Step 1
In a blender, add 30ml of rum, strawberries, lime juice, simple syrup and 1 cup crushed ice and blend until smooth. Pour into a hurricane glass and set in the freezer.
Step 2
Wash and dry the blender thoroughly. Add remaining 30ml of rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice and 1 cup crushed ice and blend until smooth.
Step 3
Pour into the hurricane glass that already contains the Strawberry Daiquiri, creating a layered effect. Garnish with a pineapple slice.
