The nut fountain in Hattenheim, a south-south-east exposed location, takes its name from a spring whose origin can still be recognized today and which was surrounded by nut trees. The Nussbrunnen is located on the lower Hattenheimer Gewann, adjacent to the Wisselbrunnen, at an altitude of 87 m and is protected from cold north winds. The deep loess soil allows a lateral water supply due to impermeable layers in the subsoil and guarantees an excellent water balance even in dry years.
