Product Details

HOHENMORGEN is considered the best site in Deidesheim. Located on the western outskirts of Deidesheim, HOHENMORGEN covers almost 3 hectares, 2.09 of which are owned by Bassermann-Jordan. The name is derived from the old measure of area called "Morgen" (acre), which means as much land as a man with a team can plow in one acre. The "Hohe" portion describes the retaining walls, up to seven meters high, on which the vineyard stands. The site is completely south-facing. The loamy to loamy sandy soil in the HOHENMORGEN is very strongly interspersed with weathering red sandstone. Lime deposits in the subsoil emphasize the strongly mineral nature of this powerful wine. HOHENMORGEN is the parade site in Deidesheim. The vines, which are a good 40 years old old vines were harvested by hand in several rounds. The lots were pressed separately and then vinified. The fermentation took place in traditional Palatinate barrels (1.200Ltr.). The wines were separated from the fine lees and blended for bottling in July. At the end it is a Riesling with intense character and oppulent fruit. At the same time peppery with fine yeast spice, some tobacco and delicate pineapple notes. The very finely integrated wood and the freshness make the Hohenmorgen animating, juicy and slender. Nevertheless, the wine has a long finish. A wine with lots of aging potential.
