Product Details

The Monnier family, Xavier Monnot’s maternal ancestors, can trace their presence in Meursault back to 1723, and since then, six generations have been active in viticulture. In the intervening three hundred years, the family accumulated seventeen hectares of vineyards, stretching from Beaune to Maranges, including a number of enviable plots in the premier crus of Meursault Charmes, Puligny Folatières and Volnay Clos des Chênes. Monnot himself took the reins in 1994, but it was only in 2005 after a period of fine-tuning that he started producing wines under  his own name. His style is certainly an engaging one, highlighting purity
of fruit and vineyard character, whilst demonstrating a rare ability to combine elegance and opulence. The fruit for this wine comes from two parcels, one purchased in the 1970s and the other purchased by Xavier’s great-grandparents. The plots were planted in 1961 and 1989 and border Puligny at their south ern end. The limestone soils here are very shallow. The grapes were
harvested by hand. After sorting, the grapes were gently pressed and the juice was run off to seperate it from the solids. The wine was then aged for thirteen months in oak barrels, 30% of which were new. Aromas of vanilla, hazelnut and toast, overlay a subtle flinty note. The palate is rich and mouth-filling, with flavours of honey and nectarines that give way to hints of almond. This richness is perfectly balanced by a fine seam of acidity, which runs through to the finish. ”...medium to full-bodied, ample and nicely concentrated, with a deep, layered core and a compelling sense of completeness.” – 92 points,
