The grapes for the Chianti Mediceo are sourced by Alberto Antonini from the wider Chianti area, with a large portion of the blend coming from the hills around Florence. Alberto selects and then blends the wine before bottling it in Cerreto Guidi. Made primarily from Sangiovese, this wine displays all the freshness, vibrancy and red fruit characters typical of Chianti. It is an excellent value for money introduction to this historical Tuscan denomination. The 2018 vintage in Chianti was cooler than average and this was a welcome relief for the vines after the heat of the 2017 vintage. Fine weather during spring resulted in excellent conditions for flowering and fruit set. The grapes underwent a problem-free, slow ripening during the mild summer and were harvested with great intensity of flavour, balanced by a vibrant acidity. The wine is deep ruby in colour. On the nose, it has bright cherry fruit aromas combined with hints of chocolate and balsamic vinegar. On the palate, the fruit is supported by fine-grain tannins. The finish is savoury with a hint of minerality.
