Weinhaus Ress is the oldest merchant brand of Stefan B. Ress KG Weinkellerei, also known as Ress Family Wineries. The brand was introduced in the 19th century by Balthasar Ress, founder and eponym of the renowned VDP estate Balthasar Ress Weingut KG. Back then, Balthasar started sourcing Riesling and Pinot Noir grapes and wines from neighbouring winegrowers who did not intend to sell their wines under their own labels. Balthasar, however, saw a chance to produce larger quantities of great entry-level wines and merged them into the brand “Weinhaus Ress”. Today, Weinhaus Ress, which now belongs to the fifth generation of the Ress family, symbolizes the family’s tradition in trade. The wines captivate with a youthful, fresh wine style and a modern outfit. In contrast to the wines from the VDP estate Balthasar Ress, Weinhaus Ress wines are less hand-crafted and produced in larger volumes, thus offering a simple yet reasonable entry into the world of German Riesling and Pinot Noir. The grapes for the 2019 Rheingau Riesling Auslese were grown in the vineyards around the two villages Hattenheim and Oestrich. Towards the end of harvest, botrytis slightly appeared on the fully ripe berries indicating it was the perfect time to harvest an Auslese. The wine presents itself with a bright straw yellow in the glass. Gentle church windows form while swirling the glass. There are aromas of honey and mirabelle in the nose and on the palate. The mild acidity stays in the background and allows the floral aromas to develop.
