The Dal Cero family has transformed their Ca' dei Frati property, situated on the southern shores of Lake Garda, into a model Italian estate over the past two decades. Back in 1987, they had 12 hectares of vineyard but now, following the purchase of a large chunk of prime vineyard in 2008, they have over 160 hectares. This increase in quantity has been matched by an increase in quality and today they remain the best producer in Lugana. The 2019 vintage was a challenging one due to the effects of climate change. Winter was dry with mild temperatures, never below 0°C. Spring was very rainy, and most of the rainfalls took place in May during the delicate phase of flowering. This reduced the final crop. June was extremely hot but, due to the spring rains, vines were never under water – stress. At the end of July some thunderstorms and even hailstorms took place but luckily, these didn’t affect the crop. August was very sunny and relatively dry, some light rainfalls enhanced the difference in temperature between day and night. September was warmer than usual but with cold nights that brought grapes to full ripening maintain good levels of acidity. A Lugana blend of Italian varieties including Groppello, Marzemino, Sangiovese and Barbera. This is a delicate rosé with tantalising aromas of summer pudding and redcurrants and a refreshing, thirst quenching character of this wine. Rosa dei Frati is light pink in colour with a touch of 'onion skin' orange. Zesty and vibrant with aromas of summer pudding and strawberries, it is perfectly balanced with a lovely refreshing finish.
