VINEYARD: The Hattenheimer Schützenhaus VDP.ERSTE LAGE is located to the west of Hattenheim and directly above the Pfaffenberg. The slight westward slope of the south-southwest exposed site protects the vines from strong easterly winds. The deep alluvial soils, which are partly characterised by loess loam, clay and weathered slate, benefit from a high water retention capacity that optimally supplies the vines with water and nutrients even in dry years.

VINIFICATION: The grapes are selected and harvested by hand and transported to the winery in small vats. A 12-hour maceration period follows to extract the aromatic substances before they are cooled down. Before spontaneous fermentation begins, maceration takes place. Whole grapes are added to the tank and fermented along with the grapes. After fermentation, the wine is aged for about 7 months in stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels. The wines from this vineyard are characterised by a fine acidity with delicate aromas and a lot of extract.

TASTING NOTE: The 2022 Hattenheimer Schützenhaus Riesling Kabinett presents itself visually in a delicate light yellow with green reflections. A light minerality paired with strong green and yellow fruit notes, some tarragon, white flowers and papaya, as well as hints of yellow blossoms beguile the nose and underline the elegant character of the wine. On the palate, the 2022 Hattenheimer Schützenhaus Riesling Kabinett presents itself fresh and very clear, again yellow tropical fruits, canatloup melon, delicate melting with a lot of balance. The exciting interplay of elegant acidity and subtle fruit sweetness rounds off the flavour of this Riesling and gives it a pleasant drinking flow, where every sip is a pleasure.
