GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Kalecik Karası

PRODUCER

The Sevilen winery was founded by Bulgarian immigrant Isa Güner in 1942, who convinced by Turkey’s potential for producing quality wines, purchased four hectares of land in Izmir and began planting vineyards. His passion for the land led him to name his ‘edgling business Sevilen, meaning EBeloved’. xöpansion took a step change under his sons, GCkhan and jo‘kun, who 5oined the business in 198N, growing the holdings to 80 hectares. 6ow run by the third generation of the Güner family, Sevilen own a total of 1-0 hectares of vineyards and demonstrate a level of ambition that has positioned them as one of Turkey’s most signi7cant high3quality wine producers.

VINEYARD

The grapes come from vineyards in Güney at an altitude of between °00 and 900 metres above sea level. The vines have an average age of twenty37ve years and are planted on a miö of limestone, alluvial loam and mudstone clay. The grapes were harvested by hand.

WINERY

The grapes underwent fermentation in stainless3steel tanks at 2A328Fj, with 7fteen days’ maceration on the skins. Ufter fermentation, 20% of the wine underwent a period of ageing in A003litre, medium toast, Rrench oak barrels.

TASTING NOTE

Dp front this has plenty of cherry and red berry fruit, followed by rich notes of plums and dark chocolate. The soft tannins so typical of this grape variety are present on the mid3palate and the 7nish is lifted by a fresh acidity and a touch of spice.
