Product Details

Poggio al Tesoro is a 70 hectare property in Bolgheri acquired in 2002 by the Allegrini family. The first vineyard they bought, Le Sondraie, is next door to Ornellaia and was previously rented by them. It is 50 hectares in size and is planted with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small amount of Vermentino. The beginning of winter was marked by mild temperatures with colder temperatures between January and February. Ideal rainfall in the spring saw a sharp drop in temperature until the end of May, putting a strain on vegetative growth. The use of protective and stimulating factors, such as algae and natural substances which could boost the vines’ energy, supported the vines to cope well in this delicate time of the vegetative cycle. Climate improved with the beginning of summer and therefore flowering, fruit set and veraison were good and were helped by light rainfall that came just as vines were beginning to suffer for the water shortage. August was characterized by cool nights, good daytime breezes and some light showers. By harvest time, the temperatures had risen, but only for a few days: September was marked by dry, breezy, mild days which brought grapes to full and balanced ripeness. Cassiopea is a rosé with character, expressing both complexity and simple enjoyment. Salmon-pink in colour with a fresh, lively perfume of fragrant spices and woodland berries. Its distinctive aroma blends well with its crisp flavour and easy-drinking style. On the palate, it is crisp but with enough structure to work well not only as an aperitif but also paired with a range of dishes.
