VINEYARD: The vineyards of the Hattenheim district are located near the Rhine and stretch across the plain on south-facing slopes sheltered from the wind. They feed on the deep and mineral-rich loess and clay soils, whose high water-holding capacity provides the Hattenheim vines with nutrients even during dry periods. Slate and heavy tertiary marl soils also give the vines additional polish.
VINIFICATION: The grapes of the Hattenheimer Ortswein are selected by hand and harvested in several passes. After a short maceration period of 6 hours, the grapes are pressed and fermented spontaneously in temperature-regulated stainless steel tanks at around 20 degrees. Once this is complete, the wine is stored for about 6 months, partly in used barrique barrels or tonneaus and partly in stainless steel tanks on the full lees.
TASTING NOTE: In the glass, the 2022 Hattenheimer Ortswein feinherb presents itself in a bright sunny yellow. Fruity notes of green apple, mirabelle plum and a hint of lemon zest are paired with floral hints on the nose. On the palate, the fruity nuances are picked up again. Here, yellow apple and ripe quince meet rangy lime and light hay notes. A filigree acidity rounds off the taste picture excellently and underlines the light, fruity character of this fine tart Riesling.
